Cabernet Sauvignon

This is the worlds second most widely planed variety of grape and gives a very high yield. The Grenache is grown in Australia with some great wines being produced including Charles Melton's NinePopes. the Grenache tends to produce wines with high alcohol content.

Merlot

The Merlot grape can produce some excellent wines but is very prone to growing conditions. It is often blended with Cabernet Sauvignon which produces a less aggressive taste. Merlot produces some excellent wines in Chile and New Zealand is starting to improve.

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir grapes are grown around the world but are mostly used in countries with cooler climates. This grape is often described as being difficult to grow, but has many passionate followers. The best examples are found in Burgundy, although Pinot Noir's also play a key role in Champagne.
